The betel nut is an integral part of the ritualistic Hindu Pooja. The supari is symbolic of the nut of the ego that must be offered on the altar of God. Supari is traditionally represented as the nine planets in the Navgrah Pooja where it represents the Grahas like Mangal, Rahu, Ketu and Surya and takes the form of Deities like Brahma, Surya and others. Supari is a hard nut which resembles the hardships of a human's life. It is believed that we transfer our hard qualities to the Gods hoping that they resolve them. It is believed that the hard Supari nut also signifies strength, longevity and prosperity.
