Utsav

Utsav is a classical tale of love and romance set against a background of passion, intrigue and political revolution. It is a story of a passionate love between Vasantsena (Rekha), a beautiful and renowed courtesan of Ujjain and Charudutt (Shekhar Suman) a handsome and imporverished Brahmin youth. Intrigue abounds and it is prolific on all levels, resulting in much confusion and calamities. The brother-in-law of the king Samsthanak (Shashi Kapoor) a disreputable character-mean and unscruplus is in hot pursuit of Vasantsena. On one hand Aryak (Kunal Kapoor), a political revolutionary, plots to depose the king on the other hand Vatsayan (Amjad Khan), complies his masterpiece on sexology - the "Kamasutra." The plots thicken and come to a climax, when Charudutt is accused of murder and sentenced to die. Rescue comes in the nick of time and he is saved. But there remains the choice between the two women in his life- his wife (Anuradha) and Vasantsena, who both love him. This happy tale has a poignant ending.
