The film is set in the serene pastoral greens of Punjab. The protagonist Tara Singh (Sunny Deol) is a truck driver who comes across Sakina (Amisha Patel) during one of his journeys. Love blossoms and grows silently. Then comes the trauma and hardship of partition. Separation is imminent, and overnight, one country, one culture is broken up into two, India and Pakistan. Will they be able to fight hatred? Will love overcome new irreversible geographic boundaries and historical events of the sub-continent?
The film explores these questions as the characters struggle against enormous odds; A backdrop of one of the most violent events of the last century unfolds with all its fury.
