| Organic Butter Chicken Simmer Sauce or murgh makhni from Devya Indian Gourmet, is an Indian dish popular in Britain, Australia, New Zealand and many other countries that have a tradition of Indian restaurants. It is said to have originated in the city of Delhi in the time of the Mughal Empire and is a fusion of Punjabi & Mughal cuisines. Devya’s sauce is made with tomatoes and various spices including cumin, cloves, cinnamon, coriander, pepper and fenugreek.
PREPARATION INSTRUCTIONS: Cube 1-2 lb(s) of chicken and cook in a lightly greased skillet on medium heat (until no longer pink inside) approx 5-7 mins. Empty contents of jar into skillet with chicken and mix well. Add water for desired consistency, cover and simmer for 7-10 mins and Enjoy!
FOR VEGAN PREPARATION: Substitute chicken with 1 cup of firm cubed Tofu, or ingredient of your choice (i.e vegetables or cooked legumes).
FOR A CREAMIER BUTTER CHICKEN: Stir 1 TBSP butter and 2-4 TBSP sour/whipping cream or yogurt and simmer an additional 3-5 mins.
Serve over Basmati rice and/or with Indian breads.
